Meet Our Journalists!

OPHELIA RICHARDS & KAYA CARAVALHO she/her

Ophelia and Kaya are the organizational masterminds behind the Journal. Between getting PTSA funding, designing the website, supporting writing and editing processes, and bringing the weekly snacks, they really do it all. For Ophelia, starting back up the newspaper was one of her main goals for high school, and partnering with Kaya for the website and layout makeup has made that dream possible. Since kindergarten these two have been an unstoppable duo even through the struggles of building the newspaper from the ground up.

JACOB VANRIJN he/him

Jacob could run his own gossip column with everything he talks about in third period APUSH. His goal is to run D1 cross country/track in college, and to be a registered nurse (following in the footsteps of the kids-he-babysits’-mom)

NICO COLASURDO he/him

Nico, more commonly known as “Beako” is a junior at Franklin and was one of our original members. He is an aspiring club waterpolo player and will never stop talking about his D2 dreams. In his free time, he hangs out with his friends, likes playing and watching sports, and feasting. In the future he aims to work in human services with the ultimate goal of helping people.

SADE TREASURE she/her

Sade has been here since the beginning, advocating for the start of newspaper since spring of 2024. When she isn’t working on newspaper she is locked as 2nd year mock trial captain. She loves public speaking and having the opportunity to express herself in trial as well as meeting new people – which you can tell because she also plays lacrosse, does girls’ swim, and volunteers at the Aquarium regularly.

THEO CHEN he/him

Theo joined newspaper by being a library regular at lunch, who one day happened to eat at the same table the club was meeting. He’s a proud member of Franklin’s varsity baseball team and one of our best reviewers.

DANIELA OKRENT she/her

Daniela is a junior at Franklin who loves watching old movies, taking walks in Seward Park, developing photos in a darkroom, and spending time with her friends! She is considering studying journalism or English in college, and she is excited to be on the Franklin Journal this year and bring exciting news and stories to students and teachers.

MIRIAM ACKER she/her

Miriam is a sophomore who enjoys hiking and hanging out with my friends and music. She also loves traveling to new places and camping with my family. She is so excited to be part of franklin newspaper!

DULCY SHILE she/her

Dulcy is a sophomore at Franklin. In her free time she likes to spend time with her friends, go shopping, row, bake, and listen to music. She is so excited to contribute to Franklin’s newspaper, and can’t wait for our future issues!

TALLULAH GIUGLIANO she/her

Tallulah is a sophomore at Franklin High school. She enjoy spending time with my friends, going shopping, painting, art, eating yummy Vietnamese food, and listening to music. Right now she is working on building and painting the set for Mamma Mia! this semester.
